The Concept
Vice is a riveting psychological thriller about a cop who has lost his way. Detective Coburg, played by Michael Madsen, is a deeply flawed hero fighting to redeem himself while solving, and simultaneously trying to prevent, a string of murders following a drug deal gone bad. As in other gritty, gripping urban dramas, such as The Usual Suspects and Narc, Vice brings the viewer face to face with deadly ambiguity in the drug underworld; Vice takes the audience by the throat and doesn’t let go until the final plot twist reveals the truth about Det. Coburg – and the true cost of making choices.
Psychological police dramas such as Vice have a track record of generating significant revenues, driven by what appears to be a built-in worldwide target market for movies in this genre such as Bad Lieutenant, To Live and Die in L.A, and Manhunter. The timing for Vice couldn’t be better. The independent film market is currently saturated with horror movies; there are few feature psychological police dramas in the production pipeline for the next 18 months. As the horror movie demand cycle weakens, Vice will be ready for release into a market hungry for features in this genre.
